HATs (Heysham Against Turbines) is an action group formed by concerned local residents whose focus is the proposed BT wind turbine development adjacent to the radio mast by the new road. HATs is seeking to raise awareness of the development amongst local residents, in an effort to prevent the wind farm becoming a reality. HNC supports HATs in it’s efforts to do this.
Included here is an e-mail update from Kath Bell.
As promised an update on last week's meeting of HATs where we discussed who was to speak at the planning meeting and what about.
* We agreed that Martin Somers would ask Geraldine Smith to speak at the planning meeting although we all believe she will not do so. Am awaiting Martin's news on that front.
* David Morris (Conservative man) has said he will be speaking so we'll leave him to his own agenda
*Other speakers: Steve Timperley to cover the points made in his letter of objection (see it on the planning application council website) and other technical matters regarding wind energy
* Peter Whaley (Heysham Neighbourhood Council) to cover the environmental aspects
* Kath Bell to cover heath & safety concerns and summarise residents' concerns
I went to the last Planning Meeting at the Town Hall to see what goes on and there was one issue which had public speakers so I now have more of an idea of how it works. Only registered speakers can speak. All other people who attend must stay silent. The speaker has a maximum of 3 minutes to talk and the Chairman times it. Of course we don't have to speak for that long. We want to get all our points across but succinctly, clearly and without boring the committee. Believe me several of them looked bored at the end of the meeting and happy to get out.
So the speakers should now be busy getting their comments ready so we are prepared for the meeting, when it happens.
I spoke to Peter Rivet of the Planning office on Thursday last week. He told me that BT has amended its proposal to reduce the height of the tower to 69 metres (from 100) but the blades remain up to 41 m each. He is still awaiting more info from various sources before he can complete his report so does not believe the wind farm will be in the May meeting but in the June meeting which is due June 8th - usually at the Lancaster Town Hall at 10.30 am. All to be confirmed.
At our HATs meeting we agreed that we should do a few posters to stick around the area once we know when the meeting is due to take place so people know and will come to support us. I will also e-mail around all the people on the list who came to the first meeting so word will get out. Even though people can't debate the issue at the meeting, we believe the number of people coming to the meeting will show the planning committee the support we have.
If anyone has some good ideas for the speakers or any questions please let me know.
Thanks.
